9th December Games

Greetings

Rather thin on the ground last night - possibly due to an accident on the A127, though, Laurie has also advised the sad news that Jon's father passed away after a short illness. I am sure you will all join me in expressing our deepest sympathy for Jon and his family at this trying time.

Josh ran a play test of the Force on Force rules, set in Afganistan, for those present. Given the lack of familiarity with the rules and having the likes of Laurie, Steve and Alan being the play testers, I think he did really well for his first attempt.

Next week; Steve has suggested we run In Her Majesty's Name, so anyone who has sutable figures for the game should come prepared.

I have consulted the centre's management who have confirmed that the centre will be open on 23/12/15, closed on 30/12/15 and avaliable for our use again on 6/01/16.

2rnd December Games

Greetings

Messrs, Knightly and Slater ran the planned 7TV play test last night. Given this was the first time for umpires and players alike, the game had a few hiccups during the play, but nothing that can't be ironed out in the future.

Next week, Josh has offered to run a Force on Force game, while I run a Napoleonic naval game.

25th November Games

Greetings

A decent turnout this week.

John and Steve S ran a Rapid Fire game which looked very nice.

Mark ran a small Lord Of The Rings game, which sadly I didn't get photos of, but it was nice to see Bob and his lady friend this week as he can't always make it to Hockley these days.

Mike, Steve H, Josh and I settled to a Wars Of The Roses vintage Lion's Rampant game. Josh had the misfortune to have his leader killed in a challenge, again, which led to the collapse of his forces and my right flank. Josh tells me he is selling the figures, which might be why they won't fight for him . . .

Next week a play test for the 7TV game has been arranged. This will accomadate 6-7 players, so I'll bring Memoir 44 to cover any gaps.

4th November Games

Greetings

A reasonable turnout last night.

Mark ran his Victorian Gothic Horror game for most of the attendants.

While Josh and I indulged in a Dark Ages Lion's Rampant game which, while starting a little slow due to poor dice, resulted in a win for the Saxons when the Norse warlord failed a post-melee courage check and remembered an appointment elsewhere!

Next week I have offered to run a Wars of the Roses Lion's Rampant game and Mark says he will run a game too, probably Lord of the Rings.

28th October Games

Greetings

A busy night yesterday; we ran a four-handed Warhammer 40K game and Steve H, ran a play test of the new Thunderbirds board game. We also had a visit from Matt who had been in touch previously and took the opportunity to pop in for the evening. Hope you enjoyed yourself Matt - see you again soon!

I confess my attention was drawn to a play test of Frostgrave by Chris and Andy H. I've been discussing this with Mike recently as a possible club campaign game and was able to play in the two games that were played. I'm hooked.

Next week, I have suggested it is time for another Lion's Rmapant session. I'll bring my Dark Ages and Wars of the Roses figures and would welcome any other forces on the day. Steve S has offered a selection of Board games as well.

21st October Games

Greetings

We had a good turnout last night;

I ran a small X-Wing dogfight in anticipation of the new Star Wars film in a couple of months time, with Steve H, Andy and Mark, which resulted in a close fought imperial win.

Dave Knightly re-ran his '3.10 to Yuma' scenario using his Old West Gunfight rules and slightly modified sides, which turned into a massacre of townsfolk, but the good guys still couldn't manage to get the 'prisoner' to the train.

A chunk of the club's Old West scenery collection.

 The massacre continues.

The first annual American/Mexican sleep-off championships.

Next week we have a game of 40k and Steve H is bringing his new Thunderbirds board game to try.

23rd September Games

Greetings

A good turnout and a re-run of last week's games this week.

Dave Knightly ran a reworked version of the '3:10 to Yuma' scenario, that was supposed to give the good guys a better chance but ended up with them actually, initially, doing worse.

While Steve Slater, again, ran Carcassone.

Next week we may be down on numbers, so I will run a Napoleonic naval game (a couple of rules tweaks I want to try) and Dave Knightly has agreed to bring some Hordes of the Things armies along as well.

A reminder that the club is attending the Essex Warriors' Open Day this Sunday. I have arranged to run various Lion's Rampant games during the day and will be glad to see as many of you as possible to help and enjoy what is a nice little days gaming.

16th September Games

Greetings

Good turnout this week;

Thanks to Dave Knightly for his Old West Gunfight game based on the film '3.10 to Yuma'. We'll play this again next week as there was a call for a rematch. Suffice to say the Lawmen didn't get the Outlaw to his train ride to destiny and they were mightly displeased.

Steve Slater, also, ran a game of Carcassone for those remaining.

9th September Games

Greetings

We were a bit down on numbers this week, but two good games to hand.

Thanks to Dave Knightly for running his Post-Apcalypse/Zombie game which I was able to take part in and thoroughly enjoyed.

Andy showed his voyeuristic side by thoroughly investigating a zombie using a urinal.

While everyone else searches shelves like 'normal' survivors.

Alan and Josh were engaged in a Warhammer 40k game which featured some impressive ruined buildings.

Next week, we have an Old West gunfight game arranged, which Dave Knightly will run. While I have been asked to run an Angels 20 game by Dave Crook who says he will be able to attend.

See yer soon,

Neil

2rnd September Games

Greetings

A decent turnout this week.

Chris ran a big game of Lion's Rampant for those interested.

Steve S ran a game of Pirates of the Crimson Coat.

There is always one. . .

While I ran a game of Space Hulk for the benefit of Andy H, Laurie and Dave K. The first scenario appears to require the Terminators to move faster than was the case on this occasion . . . Hopefully, the lesson has been learned by the Emperor's finest.

Next week, Dave K has offered to run his ever popular zombie game for those attending (since we may be a bit light on the ground) and I will bring a backup game.

26th August Games

Greetings

Pretty good turn out last night; Steve Slater ran our first game of 'In Her Majesty's Name', which proved entertaining and worthy of future attention. Mark ran a Warhammer 40k game which I, unfortunately, didn't get a look at.

Next week we have a 'Pirate of the Crimson Coat' game lined up, while Dave Knightly has asked me to run Space Hulk for his benefit as he hasn't yet had a chance to play the new version.

19th August Games

Greetings

Thanks to Andy for running his Dogs of War game last night. it seemed like a really enjoyable game.

I ran Mission 2 from Space Hulk (appropriately entitled 'Suicide Mission'), which the marines were unable to complete on this occasion.

Next week there is a Warhammer 40,000 scheduled (no other details at present). Steve Slater wants to play test the Osprey steam punk rules 'In Her Majesty's Name' and will provide the bulk of figures. If anyone has suitable figures in hand perhaps they could be provided?
There is a link to the game designer's website which has a play sheet and all other useful bits.

12th August Games

Greetings

A decent turnout last night. Thanks to Mark for another substantial Warhammer 40,000 game (which I didn't have time to check properly I am afraid) and to Andy Hunt for running a Song of Blades and Heroes ( I think this is the correct title) for the benefit of myself and others. A good set of low level Fantasy rules and great fun to play.

Next week, Andy Pierce will offer either Space Crusade or his Dogs of War game (sorry Andy, no trace of the Chaos robots we spoke of), and I'll bring the new Space Hulk again as it was not required this week.

5th August Games

Greetings

Busy again last night. Mark and co. were involved with a large scale Warhammer 40,000 game, while Dave Knightly and Laurie reprised the HotTs game from last week.
Steve H and I play tested Incursion, which was interesting; with parallels to Space Hulk but with some tactical quirks and event cards to complicate things, it is made for an enjoyable couple of hours (even though I lost both games!)

I have been advised that Mark intends to run a further WH40K next week; I will offer Space Hulk, using the latest version of the game; this has been sitting in my toy cupboard awaiting the opportunity to sort out the pieces, and I think the time has come . . .

29th July Games

Greetings

Pretty good turnout considering we're well into the holiday season this week; Dave Knightly ran a hordes of the Things game using Chris Hardman's collection of victorian policeman and naval landing pary against what I think was a Dracula-led Transylvanian army . . .

My contribution was to run a 1916 period Wings of War/Glory game, which gave an outing to the Fokker Eindekkers and Morane Saulnier monoplanes in my collection, along with a series of other period aircraft.

Next week; various members are running a Warhammer 40k game, while Steve H has offered to run an Incursion game.

22rnd July Games

Greetings

My thanks to Mark for his Victorian Gothic Horror game which kept all concerned busy up to the last minute. I ran a Star Wars X-Wing game for Bob and Andy, and actually survived the game!

Next week I am offering Wing of War for some WW1 aviation action, while Dave and Steve S have offered board games.

15th July Games

Greetings

Fair turnout last night. Thanks to john for running an early WW2 game;

Whilst Steve H, Mike and I had some high altitude WW2 mayhem with an Angels 20 game, and I am sorry to say the German bombers got through almost unscathed.

Next week Mark will run a Victorian Gothic game, whilst I've been asked to organise an X-Wing game.

8th July Games

Greetings

Apologies for the delay in this weeks post; life has rather got in the way recently.

Mark ran a sci-fi game using some really nice scenery;

While Mike, Josh, Andy and I played a particualrly bloodthirsty Lion's Rampant game, which Andy and I lost in convincing style!
*Amendment* I am informed by Andy that it was a draw at best . . .

This coming Wednesday I believe John will run a WW2 Rapid Fire game in 15mm, whilst I feel the need for a long-delayed Angels 20 game.

Lastly; a picture of the seems game of X-Wing, including some massive ships, at Broadside this year.
