21st May Games

We had two substantial games underway last night; Nigel ran his Swords Weirdos fantasy skirmish for Andy P, Mark and Eddie while Dave C ran the grand finale game for his ACW naval rules. Dave K and I ran the Confederate defenders, while Nick and Steve S were the Union attackers. They were tasked with knocking out the large fort and destroying the defending flotilla while Dave and I only had to stop them........certain ancient mariners present were heard muttering about a 'Kobayashi Maru scenario' prior to the start of play (see Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan for details).

Suffice to say the action was hard fought on both side, but the fort was duly demolished by the Union monitor force, although the Confederate gunboats sank the two Yankee wooden ships in revenge. Great fun even though the South lost - again. 

Next week, Andy is considering a Starship Troopers game, while I've been working to bring the Perry Miniatures Travel Battle game to the table after a lengthy hiatus painting the VERY small figures involved - more anon.

7th May Games

There were a few more of us onsite last night; Steve S, Mark, Dave K and Andy P settled down to play a game of the fantasy Venetian skirmish game Carnevale, while Nigel hosted myself, Eddie and Steve H with another fantasy skirmish game of Sword Weirdos. 

I didn't see much of the Carnevale game as I had my own band of adventurers to lead (sourced from a batch of figures originally painted for Frostgrave), while Eddie had a band of Dwarven warriors, and Steve a band of Skaven. We were all after treasure tokens located around the board, and we also scored points for eliminating specific races also on the board. I started from the bottom left hand side of the board, and while Eddie and Steve went about ethnically cleansing one another, I was able to scoop up enough treasure and eliminate two Skaven (plus a Dwarf who resented my taking some treasure he considered -wrongly - to be his) and found myself coming out on top. A rare event in truth....... 

It has been suggested that we should run a further test of the Tanks in Normandy game prior to its debut at Broadside on the 14^th of June. I will hopefully have an anti-tank gun to add to the German forces before next week when we'll run the test game.

16th April Games

We had a selection of games underway last night; Steve H ran a card game which I didn't get the name of for Andy P and Mark, while Nigel and Eddie played Sword Weirdos, which is a fantasy skirmish version of Space Weirdos which Nigel and I have experimented with previously.

I was involved with another of Dave C's Portable ACW Ironclad naval games with Nick, Dave K and Steve S. The scenario we played bore a passing resemblance to the River Plate action in 1939, but with Union ships USS Wabash (commanded by myself as senior officer present), Dave K in USS Watchusett and  Steve S in USS Kearsage, tasked with stopping CSS Stonewall commanded by Nick from escaping off table. Stonewall was a tough nut to crack,  she having rammed the Wabash and escaped the effects of a full broadside at close range (my dice rolls are back to normal), she then took damage from the other Union ships, and finally sank after ramming the Watchusett and taking damage in the process. I gather Dave C is pondering a possible rules amendment to cover this unusual eventuality...... Great fun nevertheless.

Steve H has suggested that I run a trial of the TANKS in Normandy game I'm looking at presenting at the Broadside show in June over in Gillingham. All are welcome to participate and feedback would be welcome; the game runs well but this version needs polishing before the public are let loose on it.

11th December Games

Still a bit light on numbers due to sickness and the 'festive' season last night; we were, however pleased to welcome an old SEEMS member and my predecessor as chairman,  Nick Huband as a guest. Nick has very generously gifted the club a very large collection of WW2 Axis and Allies models which I have yet to catalogue; thanks to Nigel for transporting the boxes and myself home as I was not driving last night! More on this anon, but many thanks to Nick for his kind generosity. Hope to see you again Nick.

Our game this week was one of Mark's infamous dungeon crawls, using a Tenfold dungeon, which has all the necessary passages and rooms contained in a single box. We were tasked with eradicating a cult of Satanists/Santaists (no one was really sure) which we proceeded to do in a rather laborious fashion. 

Next Wednesday will be our last game before Christmas (and indeed the last of 2024); the plan is to run Steve S' dinosaur hunt as is traditional at this time of year. See you then.

17th July Games

A very hot and sticky night at Wayland last night saw two games involving club members. Rob, Alan and Andy P played a further Marvel Crisis Protocol game, while Mark ran his ever -popular dungeon crawl for myself, Steves S & H, Eddie, Dave K and Nigel. This involved the usual levels of mayhem but we fell short of stopping the Lords of Evil disappearing to an alternate dimension.

Next week, Dave K will run a version of his Zombie apocalypse game.

29th May Games

My thanks to Andy P for posting details of last week’s games in my absence. Mum’s doing better and thanks you for your kind thoughts.

There were sufficient of us to run Mark’s dungeon crawl – Alan and Rob were engaged in other games but I don’t have any details. Suffice to say that Eddie, Dave K, Nigel, Steve S and myself took on large numbers of assorted opponents, which ended in Eddie butchering a snake goddess with more arms and sharp cutting weapons than was decent. We used the Wayland dungeon setup.

 
Next week, Dave K is running another ‘Here’s Negan’ game from the Walking Dead series, and Nigel and I will try to run the Space Weirdos game we originally planned for last week.

5th July Games

We had two games on the go last night; Mark ran his Dungeon Crawl for myself, Eddie, Steves S and H, Andy P and Dave K as arranged last Wednesday. One slight problem - Mark had left his Dungeon behind on the understanding that the Wayland dungeon complex would be available - it wasn't. Thankfully he was able to conjure up a two-level affair, giving the party an entry from a surface cemetery into a complex which (due to all the acolytes wearing red robes) I christened The Court of the Crimson King. Eddie got the joke (and yes, I CAN remember King Crimson).
We settled down to some serious slaughter for an hour or two, but were stopped when time ran out. Alan and Rob were playing Infinity so I've included a picture, along with images of the two level dungeon. More on Facebook.

Next week, the Steves will run a Battletech game. Following on from the ACW game last weekend, Dave K has decided to resurrect his American War of Independence collection for use with the Rebels and Patriots rules the following week, and Andy has offerd to run a Dead Man's Hand Western gunfight game thereafter. Nice to see some new games coming along.

26th April Games

Mark was good enough to run his dungeon crawl game last night for the benefit of myself, Dave K, Steves S and H, Eddie and Alex. The Wayland Games setup was available so we populated it with various unpleasantries, including orcs, snake persons and various wizards with attitude problems. These were dealt with in the normal fashion (swords, axes, arrows, spells etc) which at close of play left most members of the party carrying wounds, but all gribblies terminated with moderate to severe prejudice. Rob was involved in an Infinity game next to us, which was also somewhat kinetic.

Next week, Dave K has offered to run a zombie apocalypse game.

20th April Games

Thanks to Mark for hosting a dungeon crawl for myself, Dave K, the Steves, Matt, Paul and Andy P last night to 'christen' his new dungeon system. Mark also kindly worked out stats for my personal character Ser Guillaume (Simon de Montfort figure painted as William Marshall) and a very useful man in hand to hand combat he turned out to be! The mission wasn't a total success as the hostage princess was bumped off before we could rescue her, but there was loads of lovely loot to compensate.

Alan and Rob plated Blood Bowl and Warcry.

Next week there is a Walking Dead game planned, and I've agreed to bring Memoir 44 for some WW2 action.

The first meeting of 2020 saw three games under way. Rob ran a Fallout game while Mark ran his Barbarian Fantasy skirmish game.

 

For my part, I ran a full version of the Mortal Gods ancient Greek skirmish, which I've been trying to arrange for some time. The game went well even though Mike C and I lost most of our forces to next to no loses from the other side.

I've agreed to run a Lion Rampant variant for my Bronze age Greeks next week. Not sure what else is planned due to probable low attendance.

Greetings

A largely fantasy theme to this week's games; Dave K ran A Song of Fire and Ice (Game of Thrones mass combat game) for Mark and Steve S, while Rob and Andy played a game of Dark Souls.

Next week, I've offered to bring along my Bronze Age Greeks for a game using a Lion Rampant variant for the period. Dave K has offered to run the Song of Fire and Ice game again, having hopefully gotten to grips with the rules.

Slightly down on numbers this week, but we were able to run two games. Mark ran his Barbarian Fantasy game for Dave K, Steve S and myself, while Rob and Andy P ran a Fallout game, whcih attracted attention from some of those onsite. We were able to use Wayland's lovely labyrinth set up for the Barbarian game, so thanks to them for finding some and allowing our use.

Next week, I'd like to use this terrain for large scale Space Hulk.

27th March Games

Greetings

Matt's Maximilian Adventure game was postponed due to work commitments, so we had to put together some games on the hoof. Dave K ran a Hordes of the Things game for Mark and Steve S. Rob ran a fantasy game which I didn't get any details for but had some really nicely painted figures. Steve H turned up with Richard Borg's new sci-fi game Red Alert for fleet level space battles which he had just recieved; this runs in the same way as Memoir 44 being card driven for movement/combat. We didn't have much time to play test but combat is fast and deadly. We'll be lookin gat this again soon.

Next week, Matt will hopefully be able to run the Maximilian Avendure game, Dave K says a further Mad Dogs with Guns game has been arranged, and I'll bring along a game to take up any slack.

13th February Games

Slightly reduced numbers but more than enough to run Mark's Barbarian fantasy dungeon crawl game. The adventurers' party achieved their goal but had their work cut out due to some truely epic dice rolls by Mark as GM. I have never seen so many 6is rolled from one set of dice in the course of a game; clearly dark forces were involved . . . 

How do you exorcise a D6?

Next week we'll run a final test of Terminator:Genesys prior to the game at Cavalier on the 24th February. I've sent the posters to Steve H for printing and will laminate in time for the game.

10th January Games

Greetings

Mark ran his Barbarian Fantasy game for the bulk of those present - apparently the young woman who couldn't afford any clothes was rescued, but only after the demise of Jon's barbarian hero who was supposed to supply the muscle!

Mike C, Steve B, Steve H and I, played Lords of Waterdeep, which proved to be an interesting evening even if I did finish last.

Steve S has offered to run a Doctor Who game next week, whilst I propose to bring Space Hulk for those not participating in the former. Also, I note from the TWWS website that we have been offered a table at Cavalier 2018 on 25/2/18 to run my Big Tanks game. More details as I receive them.

8th November Games

Greetings

Bit short handed last night, but Mark ran his barbarian fantasy game - Conan rescued the 'maiden in distress' in the photo but at a fearful cost to the rescuers.

Steve H ran the new Battle of Britain game; we didn't start until late but the process of assigning raids to targets/interception/combat is well handled and I look forward to playing this again. Good to see Paul on a club night - he visited us at the Community Centre, but has now been allowed out to play again.

I have received an invitation from Tonbridge Wells Wargames Society for their Cavalier show on 25/2/18; having discussed the options with those present , I'll offer my Big Tanks game with an ACW naval game in 1/600 as an alternative. This will give me a bit of breathing space from producing new games, and for those who are working on new games to complete their projects before any later shows.

Next weel; Jon will run his delayed WW2 Rapid Fire game, and I'll bring Ludis Gladitatorus.

My planned Lion Rampant game didn't go ahead due to lack of players; however, Mark's Barbarian fantasy game kept those present busy; the dungeon terrain is particularly effective as a preformed cardboard set.

Next week; I've offered to run a Wings of War WW1 game. The Gotha bombers of the Englandgeschwader will threaten Dear Old Blighty once again!

The nature of next week's games is currently uncertain; Steve s has agreed to supply some board games. i can bring 'The hobbit' game, but will have to think about alternatives and post this in due course.

Reasonable turnout this week;

Steve H and I had a quick ACW naval game while discussing possible amendments to the rules in the event of a future display game.

While Mark ran a further play-test of this fantasy skirmish rules.
