22rnd February Games

Good turnout last night, although we were spread out on a busy night. Rob and Alan were playing Marvel: Crisis Protocol in the bar area. Steve S hosted a WW1 aerial game using the Wings of Glory ruleset for the rest.

Steve H and I were left to play a small Battlefleet Gothic game on our own - my usual luck led to a losing draw/test game but great fun all the same. Lots of passing interest from other gamers who obviously had never seen the game or hadn't seen it for year.

Next week a Hordes of the Things game and Memoir 44 are on offer for those attending.

I would remind members that Steve H, Graham, Matt and I are running an ACW game at Cavalier this coming Sunday the 26th. If anyone feels like the run down to Tonbridge they'd be welcome to attend and help out.

13th July Games

Steve S, Mark, Paul, Dave K and Andy P were engaged in a Zombicide game last night; no details but I believe all survived.

Steve H and I ran through a convoy scenario for my planned Battlefleet Gothic game. An Imperial convoy escorted by a light cruiser and two frigates was hit by a Chaos raiding force of two cruisers and six escorts. I was unlucky with initiative rolls and the two cruisers wrecked havoc on the convoy. I'd factored in reinforcements for the convoy of 2 cruisers and 6 escorts, but randomising their point of arrival meant that these didn't arrive in time to support the convoy. although some small satisfaction was gained by bushwhacking three Chaos escorts with the Imperial escorts launching a full spread of torpedoes into their rear arc! Despite the result the game was fun, and the scenario will receive some tweaks in due course.

I'm pleased to say that my new battle mat for Angels 20 has been received from Tiny Wargames and very nice it is too. Needless to say I shall christen same with a game next week. Considerations have also been given to running a Battlemech game.

5th February Games

Greetings

Numbers were back up to near normal last night, so I was able to run a Battlefleet Gothic game for all those present. Although there was no clear result, the game saw some serious action and was apparently enjoyed by all.

The Cavalier show will be held on Sunday 23/02/20. I've noted from the TWWS website that there are roadworks on the A21 which will require a detour to reach Tonbridge. Check their website for details.

Next week I've offered to run another colonial game using the Men Who Would Be Kings rules as a training session before the game at Cavalier.

30th October Games

Greetings

Still down on numbers at present. I ran a Battlefleet Gothic game for Matt, Mark and the Steves during which a Chaos cruiser battlegroup took on a similar sized Imperial force in an attempt the bushwhack the latter. A exceptionally viscous affair followed (particularly as we remembered the critical hits this time!) with the Imperial Navy scoring a marginal victory. Sadly no pictures this week as my camera was lost in the warp (left at home by accident).

Next week I'll run an early 20th century (either pre-dreadnought or WW1 vintage) naval game. Nothing else agreed at present but should a decision be made, could this be notified to the group (on the new facebook group?).

17th July Games

Greetings

Pretty good turnout last night - Mike was playing Battlefleet Gothic with Dan in an Eldar vs Imperial Navy clash and apparently got a hiding, whilst Dave K ran the first test of his new Batman skirmish game for Steve S and H and Mark. I ran another Ludis Gladiatorus game for Andy's P and H and Rob as previously agreed. Another fun, messy game as ever with some discussion concerning the up scaling of the game to 54mm for show purposes, it looks like this might actually go ahead . . .

Next week, Dave K wants to run the Batman game again, while Andy P has offered to run his Wildlands game. I'll bring along something as backup.

17th April Games

Greetings

A selection of games last night - Rob and Alan played Kill-Team, Mike and Steve B played another Rebels and Patriots ACW game, whilst I ran a Battlefleet Gothic game for the remainder of those present. My thanks to Matt and Mike for photos as I forgot my camera.

I can only report on my game as I was umpiring but basically it was a chance to use the big beasts - and Emperor class BB and a Desolator class BB - with supporting cruisers and escorts. An exceedingly messy action ensued but the Imperium came out on top (just) due to Chaos losses and damage inflicted. It's been a while since we last played BFG and we were all a bit rusty.

Next week, Dave K has offered to run a Western Gunfight and I believe Andy P has a couple of board games in mind.

28th June Games

Greetings

I was able to run my planned Battlefleet Gothic game last night. The game did not reach it's full conclusion as we were a bit rusty with the rules, but based on Chaos losses I felt the Imperium had the edge at the close of play.
The layout of the table needs some work but the this is not insurmountable. My thanks to Chris who provided the planets and asteroids, and who has very kindly passed these to me for future use.

Next week; Andy P and Steve H will be trialling Wild West Exodus, whilst Mark has agreed to bring his Retro Raygun pulp sci-fi game along. I'll bring something as backup.

See yer soon.

Broadside 2012 Report

Broadside 2012 - the view of a roving attendee

What a difference a year makes! The show this year seemed to be far better laid out (not that it was bad before) in terms of trade and games - not sure if it was but it just felt somehow, roomier. As is usual I only spent a couple of hours wandering about and seeing what was on offer - both in respect of games and trade. I took the opportunity so trade a pile of books for some other titles and aside from a small foray into the Bring and Buy/Flea market I actually spent very little! The show itself has a real 'old school' feel about it so you can cheerfully jaw with traders and gamers quite happily and I only wish I had spent some more time doing so. I enjoyed the fact that many of the games looked like the kind of thing you would see at your local club and not the usual static dioramas on offer at the larger events. That is not to say they were in anyway inferior - they just had that more achievable 'club night' look about them!

Space, the final frontier....these are the voyages of the Starship Table Clutter (only kidding, they were still setting up!) - it looks suitably galactic and space opera-ish.

The legendary Mr. Fox in his 'despoiler of worlds and flayer of men's souls' guise....or even 'Darth A'Path - Imperious Bleeder'

Mr Fox had organised a truly epic Battlefleet Gothic game that was awesomely awesome in its awesomeness (I think the fleets were about a gazillion points a side!) and featured suitably large numbers of battling starships and a selection of very nice terrain provided by Mr Hardman. Mr Fox is of course the owner of the two star field mats in use and boy do they look effective! Mention of the large number of asteroids on display did have me mentally humming a certain rather well known tune and recalling images of a particular French 120 gun ship of the line of all things.....(pauses for a moment of sighing and misty eyed reminiscing....)

It was a great day out and for me, exactly what a good show should be rather than the rugby scrum of much bigger events. Here's to Broadside 2013!
