14th September Games

Greetings

Decent turnout last night; Steve S ran Cards Against Humanity, which generated some hilarity amongst those playing. Chris and Dave K played Hordes of the Things and I ran my Viking Raid game ahead of it's next outing at SELWG. This game featured a revised layout and led to a Viking victory when the church was looted and the Saxon commander was killed in a duel. Sort of deci=isive then . . .

Steve H has offered to run Incursion next week, prior to the Essex Warrior;s Open Day. Nothing else firm has been planned, but I'll have a look for something suitable.

7th September Games

Greetings

Reasonable turnout last night - we had a visit from Bob who may be joining us at some point; thanks to Dave K for running his Sweeny - based Pulp Alley game for those present.

Given the 1970's flavour of the game, current opinion holds that the orange pond in the background is either full of Fanta or an unsuccessful attempt at pumpkin soup by the soup dragon.

I've agreed to run a Lion Rampant game next week using my Viking figures - I'm looking to introduce some variable and a revision of scenery to the Viking Raid game which I'll take to SELWG on the 9th October. Not sure what else has been arranged.

31st August Games

Greetings

Slightly higher attendance last night (due in part to the return of Alan Fitzroy after a prolonged absence); thanks to Mark for his Retro Raygun game which provided entertainment for most of those present. Steve H and I played Battlecry and I lost (no change there then).

Next week, Steve S wants to play AWI, using the horse and musket Flinch Point rules, dating back to the early 1970's as a tribute to Laurie (and yes, I HAVE played these rules!), but currently, no full set can be found. Dave K will provide figures and if necessary has agreed to run his Pulp Alley game if the AWI game cannot go ahead. I will bring Space Hulk or something similar.

See yer soon,

Neil

24th August Games

Greetings

A better turnout this week; thanks to John for running a Rapid Fire early WW2 game. A lively game, in which the German forces just shaded a win - if I have the objectves right!

Next week we have a Retro Raygun sci-fi game and a Battle Cry ACW lined up.

A reminder that Laurie's funeral is to be held this Friday 28/06/16 at the Bowers Gifford Crematorium at 3.20pm. I gather that a number of members will be attending to give our old friend a good send off.

See you there

17th August Games

Greetings

Another quiet evening when a whole bunch of paper pirate ships were sorted out pending redistribution, followed by a game of Settlers of Catan. Things are a bit muted at present with the dates of Laurie Bryson's funeral getting ever closer, but we will be present on the day to see an old friend off in the best way we can.

Prior to that, next week's games have been arranged as an early WW2 Rapid Fire game in 15mm, and I will bring the Airfix WW2 board game as a backup.

10th August Games

Greetings

Still thin on the ground, although Josh has returned from holiday, and ran a Force on Force game in association with Steve S.

I believe a massive sort out of the Pirates of the Crimson Coast has been arranged for next week (a large batch has been supplied by Dave Crook), so I'll bring a couple of games which we can fit in.

In the background, I have been working on some ships for the new Poseidon's Warriors ancient naval game. I've more or less finished the first batch, and will bring these to the club next week to illustrate progress.

3rd August Games

Greetings

Still thin on the ground due to holidays etc and no further news concerning Laurie's funeral.

We were able to run Andy Hunt's Song of blades and Heroes game, in which the heroes went to zeroes in very short order!.

Steve S played a board game called Small World with Andy P.

I understand a Force on Force game has been arranged for next week, but we have no other firm plans at this stage. I can provide the following for members and offer the choice to you:

  • Space Hulk
  • Napoleonic Naval
  • Pre-dreadnoughts
  • Dark Ages Lion Rampant
  • Angels 20
Let me know if any of the above appeal - can't say I don't give you a choice!
