3rd July Games

As arranged, we had a trial game with the Legends of the Old West rules last night; I have had these rules for some time, but had never really worked up the interest to run a game before. There were some - interesting, shall we say - situations arising from the test game, involving the slow dismantling of a door by bullet and size 10 boot (hi Alan!), incipient pyromania (yes, Andy, I am looking at you) and a final no holds barred gunfight in which the bad guys achieved their seriously politically incorrect objective. No photographs this week as the terrain was rather crowded due to the rapid expansion of Bryson City with the advent of the new MDF buildings on the market.

 

Next week John has offered to run a Rapid Fire WW2 game using his early way 15 mm collection; I have another set of predreadnought rules which I wish to test, and will supply all the items needed.

26th May Games

A distinct nautical theme to last night's meeting; thanks to Dave Kightly for the War at Sea game, using his USN and IJN collections. I started rather later than expected with a play test of a set of predreadnought rules due to the late arrival of Messrs. Fosker and Crook, together with the usual business transactions etc. Pictures of both games are attached; the War at Sea game ran twice and my play test went well, but there are changes and rewrites planned for this and a set of rules for the earlier ironclads.

Next week has an Old West game planned using the Warhammer Historical rules. I have had these for some time but have never played them. I believe I have a batch of player aids squirreled away on the PC, and will send these out when I can find them which might help to get things moving on the night.

12th May Games & Broadside 2013

Well, that one is done for another year! Thanks to John/Chris for the loan of the display stand (table layout features in accompanying photo) and to the two Steves, Laurie and John for helping with the three games we were able to run. Quite a bit of passing interest (including Henry Hyde of Miniature Wargames). On site trade was OK if not quite what I had hoped for but most people came away with a decent haul.

Thanks to Steve and Andy for the Flames of war and Dogs of War games they organised for Wednesday nights session; pictures are attached.

Steve tells me that Mark has proposed a SWAT game, while Steve will bring some board games. I will look at something similar (Memoir 44 or Battle Cry seem like good ideas), but any other offers would be welcomed.

5th May Games & Broadside 2013

Steve Slater kindly ran a Valley of the Dinosaurs game, which appeared to live up to its customary level of mayhem and apparent double-dealing.

I ran the Angels 20 Russian Front scenario which has made a few appearances to date; this time the Luftwaffe got the sharp end of the stick - both Fw190 escorts were shot down (see accompanying picture) but the Bf110 completed its mission and was able to exit relatively unscathed.

As you may be aware, the Broadside show takes place next Sunday. I will be taking Angels 20 as a participation game, and as always would welcome assistance in the handling of the game from anybody who is planning on attending the show. 

I have attached the (rather stylized) route map, together with the layout of the Wyvern Hall, which is the first area you enter on arrival.

29th May Games

We had two games running - I ran a France 1940 Angels 20 game, pitting the Armee de l'Air against a Luftwaffe bombing mission. This was one of the larger games I have run, with 11 aircraft involved. The game was a spirited (and occasionally heated) affair, but the French managed to prevent the bombers getting through. The furball which resulted can best be seen from the attached picture.

Chris, Dave Weedon and Alan played a couple of Hordes of the Things games during the evening. Honours were even at one game all, a picture of the second game being attached.

I plan to run an Eastern Front Angels 20 game next week as a prelude to the Sittingbourne show which is on the 9th of June. If there are any other games planned, perhaps these could be advised?

22nd May Games

There were enough bodies on hand for me to run a Battle of Britain based Angels 20 game, which resulted in a convincing RAF win for once. The demise of a Bf 109 is included as proof; sadly no gun camera footage was available to support the claim...

I intend to run another Angels 20 next week, either Russian Front or Middle East this time. Hopefully, we will see a few more people onsite then, so any game ideas to be advised would be nice.

8th May Games

A fair turnout last night - Ernie arrival in Santa Claus mode, distributing largesse far and wide, certainly enhanced proceedings. Thanks to mark for his Victorian Gothic Horror game and also to Bob & co. for the Malifaux game, pictures attached. My Space Hulk game went ok (if not for the Deathwing) but sadly the pictures were a bit of a failure.

Next week, I propose to run an Angels 20 game for some of the members who haven't played the game yet. A Lord of the Rings game is also planned.

Quick reminder about the Fly In at Stow Maries Airfield this weekend. Steve Harbron and I will be in attendance with a Wings of War display, and we would welcome anybody who wants to turn up. There should also be some replica WW1 aircraft in attendance of the weather permits, so there is potential for a good day out. Better find my digital SLR camera.....
