19th Feb Games

Not a bad turnout this week; a distinct scifi theme with a 40K game for the benefit of two visitors (hi Ian and Ben!) and a Star Trek game. Pictures of both games attached.

Next week, I will run a Napoleonic naval game, while Dave Kightly has offered to run his ever popular zombie apocalypse game.

12th Feb Games

My Angels 20 game featured two B-17F 1/144 scale models which were ably flown by Ed and James, with Steve H commanding the two P-38 escort fighters. Andy and Bob flew Me109 G's and Fw190A's to attack the formation, but did not fare terribly well! Picture attached showing part of the action.

Steve Slater ran a Wings of Glory WW1 game to complete the aviation theme. A mixture of aircraft types took part in the action, including a Fokker D7 in the all-white colour scheme used by one Hermann Goering during his period with Richtofen's Flying circus; it appears he did not last long, being shot down in flames in short order......Picture shows part of the game in full flow.

This seems an opportune moment to remind one and all that Cavalier 2014 is being held at Tonbridge next weekend Sunday 23rd February 2014. We are running the Table Top Teasers on Tour War of Spanish Succession game we last played at SELWG last October. It has been advised that there will NOT be a bring and buy stall at this year's show, so don't bring stuff to sell. This coming Wednesday we have a Star Trek Attack Wing game lined up, together with a Warhammer 40K game.

29th January Games

Chris and Alan were play testing the Dystopian Wars naval rules (see picture) and by all accounts found the rules to be entertaining. My thanks to Dave Kightly for running his Zombie Apocalypse game for the benefit of the remaining attendees; Mike had the unique distinction of dying twice in this game after being attacked by the zombies and then despatched by his erstwhile foraging companions! A picture of the action is also attached.

Next week Mike, Steve Harbron and I intend to run a Star Trek Attack Wing game for any interested parties. I didn't hear of any other games arranged last night, so if anything comes up please let me know.

8th January Games

After the excesses of Christmas and the New Year, we have returned to what passes for normal club meetings within our circle! Thanks to Dave Kightly for running the 'Battlestar Galactica' board game this week, which occupied the bulk of those attending for most of the evening. Mike and I had a small scale ACW naval game using my collection and adapted ruleset. Suffice to say that Dixie was victorious and the snotty nosed Yanks had their butts kicked. Guess which side I was commanding? ;o)

With regard to the Tonbridge show on 23rd February, the game we are presenting has been changed to 'Table Top Teasers on Tour' as John Francis is not sure if he can finish the terrain boards for the 1914 game in time for the show. More on this anon.

Next week Andrew has agreed to run his 'Dogs of War' skirmish game, and I would like to give my WW1 naval rules another run out.

18th December Games

We had a better turnout than expected, given the pressures of the season and some particularly grotty weather late in the evening. Steve Slater kindly ran a Valley of the Dinosaurs board game. This allowed me to reprise my traditional Beast Master role for the Christmas game - suffice to say that I was able to spread a little misery around the various players during the course of the game. Steve accumulated the most loot but had no surviving characters to spend it with!

Dave Kightly ran a Zombiecide game for the remaining members present; I didn't get much time to look at this but those playing appeared to enjoy the game, which I suspect will be played again soon.

The next two Wednesdays will not see meetings due to Christmas and the New Year; our next scheduled meeting will be on Wednesday 8th January 2014. I look forward to seeing you then.

In the mean time, have a very Happy Christmas and may 2014 be a good year for us all.

11th December Games

A fair turn out last night; Mark,Bob and Andy ran a Lord of the Rings game based on a scenario from The Two Towers. Word is the Uruk-Hai have a couple of halflings to play with as a result; I have checked my copy of Mary Gentle's 'Grunts!', but cannot currently find a receipe for roast hobbit. It's important to use the right sauce you see.... picture attached. Of the game, that is.

Steve Harbron was kind enough to bring along a new board game called 'Euphoria' for a play test. Not being directly involved in this game I wasn't paying close attention to the play, but I gather the game was enjoyed by those involved.

Next week it appears we will be a bit thin on the ground. Steve Slater has therefore offered to run a Valley of the Dinosaurs board game as the Xmas entertainment; I have picked up a board game based on the first of the Hobbit films (via The Works in Southend) which might also be worth a try.

20th November Games

A reasonable turnout last night; thanks as always to Mark for running his SWAT game for the bulk of those attending; didn't have much time to look at the state of play (see below for the reason), but picture attached anyway.

I was somewhat preoccupied with umpiring the rather delayed Napoleonic naval game; Ed had his baptism of fire, including a fierce boarding action launched by Contre-Amiral Slater as the French commander. Thanks to Steve Harbron for acting as Ed's 'sea-daddy' (and no, there isn't any unnatural connotation there!) I realised there were a couple of tweaks to the rules I had not included during the last review, and will attend to these; picture attached at an early part in the action, with some nasty close broadside action in the offing.

Next week I gather that a Warhammer 40K (or Fantasy - some uncertainty here) has been proposed. I will run a further Napoleonic naval game at the request of Ed and the two Steves, and would welcome anybody else interest in a bit of nautical mayhem.
