21st June Games

We set out to play Wings of War WW1 aerial in a 'boisterous' Wayland Games Centre last night, using my collection. I felt it was time that the late war aircraft put in an appearance, so set up four Fokker DVII's against four Sopwith Snipes. Both types represent the best on offer in the closing months of the Great War. The ensuing fireball saw Steves S & H, Mark, Dave K, Eddie, Jack and myself suffer loss and inflict more of the same throughout, with the end result being a draw with four kills to each side. Great fun and good to see the game played again.

Next week Steve S will run a Mad Dogs with Guns game; I'd remind all members of Mike's planned ACW game on Saturday 1/7/23 from 11.00 am onwards. Those who have prepared troops for the game should contact Mike (by WhatsApp is best) with details so he can plan the scenario.

14th June Games

It was good to get along to Hockley yesterday evening after the last two or three weeks' worth of domestic health issues involving my mother. I'm pleased to be able to confirm that she is recovering well, and she has asked me to pass on her thanks for all the good wishes from club members she has received. You are SUCH a bunch of softies...........

Meanwhile, back in the world of gaming, when you play Zombiecide softies end up as lunch! We played the scenario in question three times. The first went literally without a hitch and certain players were heard to mutter 'it was too easy'. Needless to say, the dice gods were listening, and the following two scenarios ended with our characters becoming a zombie hors d'oeuvre. I also found Rob and Alan playing the new Star Wars Shatterpoint game, which is a low level skirmish version of Legion. Pictures of the games are attached.

Next week, I've offered to run a WW1 aerial game using the Wings of War/Glory rules and miniatures. I have an idea for a game, but have yet to decide at what point in the Western Front aerial war to set it. This game will able to handle six players, so book earlier to avoid disappointment/BE2.

24th May Games

Lower attendance this week; I sat in on a Living Dead game (viewing not participating) run by Dave K for Eddie, Paul , Mark and Steves S & H as part of an ongoing campaign. Time prevented the scenario's completion, but the players had completed the bulk of the mission despite the baleful presence of Negan (he's the one with the baseball bat with barbed wire wrapped around. I'm told by devotees of the series that he is a rather volatile character and in the game can be either a positive or negative influence on others). Rob and Alan were playing Infinity in the main hall and I popped round to take some pictures of their game, together with a view of the Living Dead game.

Next week the Living Dead game will hopefully be completed, and I'll bring my version of Ludis Gladiatorus as backup.

10th May Games

Very thin on the ground last night for various reasons. Steve S ran his Daleks vs UNIT game for myself, Eddie, Dave K and Mark; the Dalek objective was to 'eliminate' HM Queen Elizabeth in a scenario set in the 1970's. UNIT fielded mortars, a section of Guardsmen and a Scimiatar tank against the Dalek and Robomen.

   Mortars and tank proved exceptionall effective against the Daleks, with one only surviving to the game's end. The Master was also skulking around, 'assisting' the Daleks but was removed from play by UNIT reversing the Scimitar and squidging the Master and a lackey against a brick wall! Lets see you regenerate from that, sunshine!

   HM was last seen exiting the table in a Land Rover; it was uncertain who was driving the vehicle - those Royal corgis are exceptionally well trained, you know . . .

Rob was playing Infinity elsewhere, but I didn't have time to look in.

Next week, I'll run Ludis Gladiatoris for those onsite, which will provide fun for 6 players. Work on the Franco-Prussian War game proceeds apace, I've also received an invite for the SELWG show at Picketts Lock, which is scheduled for Sunday 15/10/23. No decision on game as of yet.

3rd May Games

Better turnout this week; Dave K ran his zombie apocalypse game for Steves S&H, Mark, Eddie and Alex which provided an acceptable level of mayhem amongst the (fairly) recently deceased. Mike and Steve B were engaged in a Kill Team scenario involving Sisters of Battle and genestealers which was also messy.

I spent the evening moving between the games, getting photos and discussing the upcoming Franco-Prussian War show game. I've done some provisional unit stat cards which have been agreed, and which will go into production shortly. Matt's in full production with the bulk of the figures required (I have some Germans and French figures to complete) and Mike is supplying some terrain and extra buildings for the test game we're planning before the Broadside show on 10th June. Hopefully it will all come together in time.

26th April Games

Mark was good enough to run his dungeon crawl game last night for the benefit of myself, Dave K, Steves S and H, Eddie and Alex. The Wayland Games setup was available so we populated it with various unpleasantries, including orcs, snake persons and various wizards with attitude problems. These were dealt with in the normal fashion (swords, axes, arrows, spells etc) which at close of play left most members of the party carrying wounds, but all gribblies terminated with moderate to severe prejudice. Rob was involved in an Infinity game next to us, which was also somewhat kinetic.

Next week, Dave K has offered to run a zombie apocalypse game.

19th April Games

Our presence was reduced to Steves S and H, Alex, Dave K and Mark this week, which gave me the chance to replay the Beachhead scenario from Space Hulk. Alex and Mark led the Sons of the Lion (Deathwing), whilst the remainder ran the Genestealers. There was a rather lot of bloodshed (mostly on the part of the Deathwing), while the stealers' losses were also high. Although the Deathwing cleared most of the opposition, their own losses were so high that the game was declared a draw. The usual 'spirited discussions on rules interpretation' occured but no wargamers were harmed in the process . . . just.

Next week, Mark has offered to run his dungeon crawl so I'll look out my Frostgrave figures which are perfect for this game. In the meantime, I'll hopefully see some of you at Salute on Saturday. Bring your own bank balance!
