24th May Games

Greetings

Enough of us on hand last night to run two games. Steve H and I played an Airfix WW2 board game - not with any great success on my part as I haven't read the rules in ages. Mark ran his barbarian fantasy game with a beautiful 3-D dungeon layout.

Next week; Andy P will run a Samurai game, whilst Chris and I have a Lion Rampant session planned.

17th May Games

Greetings

Fair turnout on a very wet evening this week; Dave K ran a further Pulp Alley/Sweeney game.

Whilst, Steve H and I tried some refinements to the Poseidon's Warriors game.

Next week, Mark has offered to flex his mighty thews and run his new Barbarians game (Crom!). Not sure what I will offer yet, but will advise when I decide.

3rd May Games

Greetings

A quick change of Games on my part this week; the Napoleonic naval game has been put back and a Poseidon's Warriors game substituted. Josh and Steve H played, whilst I umpired - both are happy with the way the rules work and we continue for the game's show premier at Broadside on 11/6/17.

Dave K ran a Sweeney inspired Pulp Alley game notable for the absence of kipper ties . . . .

Our AGM is scheduled for the next Wednesday to start at 8.15 sharp. Please try to attend as we have some serious issues to address, a few quick board games for afterwards might be handy as well.

26th April Games

Greetings

Reasonable turnout last night - Steve S ran a Car Wars game and I umpired the AWI board game ' Hold the Line'; we played the Lexington and Concord scenario, which resulted in a further win for the Crown forces. Bunker Hill next tim methinks.

We also had a visit from Tim who found us using Google-Fu but apparently knew of SEEMS from our days at the Rocheway Centre (when dinosaurs ruled the Earth!)

Next week Dave K will run a Sweeney based Pulp Alley game, whilst I will run a Napoleonic Naval game at Tim's request.

19th April Games

Greetings

Thanks to Dave K for running a Western gunfight game for those attending last night. Steve H and I had a quick run out with Poseidon's Warriors to give him a taste of how the rules work; this was generally successful.

Next week I'l bring the AWI board game 'Hold the line', while Steve S has agreed to run a car wars game.

Salute at Excel is this Saturday - I expect I'll see a few of you there.

13th April Games

Greetings

Travel problems left us a bit short-handed last night; I put my Poseidon's Warriors game on hold to allow Steve S to run an experimental Star Trek game for those attending. The basic mechanisms work OK and Steve made notes during the game for a number of changes. i'm pretty sure I have a number of similar models in Area 51.1 (aka my loft) so I'll have a look and see what I can find.

Therefore, next week I will try to run my Poseidon's Warriors play test. Dave K has offered to run an Old West Gunfight using Pulp Alley rules. See you then.

29th March Games

Greetings

My thanks to Steve S for hosting a board game last night; whilst I ran a 36AP Lion Rampant Anglo-Norman vs Norse game for Josh, Alan and Dave K. Both sides suffered with poor movement dice rolls at various times, but Dave was able to inflict serious casualties on the Norman cavalry (guys-charging shield walls hurts!), although he couldn't complete the scenario requirements for victory in the time available. I still gave him the benefit of a winning draw for a gutsy fight . Based on last night the Normans can be very effective, but require careful co-ordination.

No firm decisions for games next week as yet; I hope to be able to run Poseidon's Warriors (ancient naval rules by Osprey) provided a play test this weekend goes OK.

22rnd March Games

Greetings

Fair turnout last night;

Dave K ran 'Last night on Earth' for the followers of zombie (un)consciousness.

Whilst, Steve H and I tried the Lexington and Concord scenario from the AWI 'Hold the Line' board game. For those unfamiliar with the period, this is the first action of the conflict when British troops from Boston attempted to seize arms and ammunition held by Patriot forces. This time, I am pleased to inform, His Majesty's loyal subjects that a serious defeat was inflicted on the rebels, but not severe enough to crush the rebellion. More anon. . . .

Next week, I've been asked to run a further Lion Rampant game, which I'll try to run with forces of 36AP as a distinct from the usual 24, thus providing sufficient forces for four players. Steve S has offered to bring a selection of board games as a backup.

8th March Games

Greetings

Fair turnout last night. Steve S and Andy P ran board games, whilst I 'entertained' Steve H and Josh with a Space Hulk mission. Suffice to say that Genestealers rule OK!

Current plans for next week are for a 15mm WW2 game to be organised by John, while I run a Lion Rampant game expanding on the rearguard action I offered recently, primarily to give my new Norman force a runout. Book your place to avoid disappointment.

15th March Games

Greetings

We ran two games last night; John presented his early WW2 15mm game involving a French counter attack on the German armour advance.

Whilst I put on a Lion Rampant Norman vs Norse game for Dave K, Steve H and Josh. The Norse got away with the relics of St. Haribo again, in spite of some truly appalling movement rolls. An enjoyable game, but the scenario still needs work to give the Normans a decent chance of stopping the Norse escape.

Next week; Dave K will run 'Last Night on Earth', and everyday tale of zombies in America. I'll bring Hold the Line, an AWI board game I picked up at Cavalier recently.

1st March Games

Greetings

There were enough of us present last night to run a further test of Mark's fantasy barbarian skirmish game; debate over proposed rule changes was (as usual) 'lively'.

The nature of next week's games is currently uncertain; Steve s has agreed to supply some board games. i can bring 'The hobbit' game, but will have to think about alternatives and post this in due course.

Cavalier 2017

Greetings

Well, that's the first show of the year out of the way! The zombie apocalypse game was well received, if not appreciated in the Best Game category. my thanks to Dave K for preparing and running the game, assisted by Mark, Andy, Josh and the Steves; we certainly had the interest and those who played all appeared to have enjoyed themselves.

And yes, I had a lovely retail therapy session.

Wednesday night's game will feature Mark's on-going barbarian fantasy game with some rules tweaks he has made; I hope to bring a new AWI board game as aquired on Sunday as back up, but I'll find something in any case.

23rd February Games

Greetings

Only four of us this week - was it something I said?

Dave K, Steve S, josh and I settled down to run through the scenario Dave had put together for the game at Cavalier on Sunday; this worked out well and we should be able to run the game OK. If anyone has any problems regarding the show, please let me know asap. show details can be found at www.twws.org.

No decision has been made as yet concerning the games for next Wednesday due to the reduced numbers this week. Something to be discussed on Sunday, but if anyone has any ideas, let's hear them!

15th February Games

Greetings

Reasonable turnout this week;

Andy P ran his samurai skirmish game, held over from last week.

While I ran a Lion Rampant game to introduce my recently completed Norman force to the rules; Josh was able to get his Viking warlord off table with the fabled relics of Saint Haribo, but lost the bulk of his force to achieve this. The Normans will take a bit of getting used to, but I enjoyed the game.

Next week, wth the run-up to Cavalier on 26/2/17, Dave K has agreed to run a trial game for the zombie apocalypse scenario he has been working on. I have been able to put together a sign for the game and will provide backup table bits where necessary. Any other game offers?

Finally, I would like to offer our congratulations and best wishes to Dave Crook and his long term/long-suffering partner Laurel, who were married on Monday last. I was fortunate enough to attend the wedding and I am sure they will be very happy together.

8th February Games

Greetings

Reasonable turnout this week;

Steve H and I had a quick ACW naval game while discussing possible amendments to the rules in the event of a future display game.

While Mark ran a further play-test of this fantasy skirmish rules.

Next week I'll run a Lion's Rampant game to christen my recently completed Norman force; Steve S has offered to bring some board games, but another game would be nice . . .

1st February Games

Greetings

Bit quiet last night:

Steve S ran a Wings of Glory WW1 air combat game.

Whilst I inveigled Steve H and Josh into trying out my new Cold War naval game 'They Come Unseen', purchased from Osprey games recently.

I got chatting in the bar at the end of the evening, and thus remain unaware of any games organised for next week; can some kind soul please confirm the details?

25th January Games

Greetings

Fair turnout on a bitterly cold evening (roll on summer).

Mark ran a game of the Lord of the Rings.

I ran a small game of TANKS for Chris and Steve H, giving me the chance to drive a Tiger 1 against the two Shermans. All vehicles took damage in a game with some manoeuvring - and correct use of the Initiative rules this time! - before close of play.

Next week, Steve S has agreed to run a Wings of War WW1 aerial game. I'm not sure what I'll bring as I have taken delivery of the Osprey submarine game 'They Come Unseen', and may try that out.

18th January Games

Greetings

Fair turnout last night:

Dave K ran a play test for his Zombie Apocalypse participation game - this has been requested by the Tonbridge club for the Cavalier show on 26/06/17, so it's time to start sorting things out!

One of our visiting members - Mark S - brought along a pre-production version of a game called Feld Marschal, which covers the German invasion of Russia in 1941. The game has been under development for an extended period, having been started by Mark's father many moons ago. An opportunity for a play test was too good to miss, together with a discussion on marketing and a possible Kickstarter. Sorry, Chris, I couldn't get your good side in the photo.

Next week, I'll run a 28mm Tanks game, so if you have any available models, bring 'em along!

11th January Games

Greetings

Decent turnout last night for the time of year - it was my first meeting of 2017 due to illness last week. Mark ran a play test of a set of barbarian fantasy skirmish rules he is working on; this provoked 'lively discussion' as is often the case in these situations.

I ran a small scale TANKS game in 15mm using two Shermans against a single Pather; couldn't supply anymore as the necessary models are currently out of stock in most places.

The situation regarding the club's attendance at Cavalier in February has taken a turn for the better. We will probably be running Dave K's zombie apocalypse game at the specific request of the organisers; more news on this anon.

Dave has suggested we run the zombie game next week ahead of the show to sort out scenarios, terrain etc. So I'll sort out something as a backup game.
